Average gasoline prices in Texas are unchanged in the last week, averaging $4.13/g May 16, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 44.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.37/g higher than a year ago. The price of diesel has risen 3.0 cents nationally in the past week and stands at $5.55 per gallon. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $3.19/g yesterday while the most expensive was $5.70/g, a difference of $2.51/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $3.19/g while the highest was $5.70/g, a difference of $2.51/g. The national average price of gasoline is unchanged in the last week, averaging $4.46/g today. The national average is up 39.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.43/g higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. The office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s issued its latest report on sales tax revenue payments May 11, indicating that seven local cities had posted gains and six others minor setbacks when comparing against the same calendar month from the previous year.

The Wills Point community found itself reeling this week after a major a two-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a high school student and injuries to three others. According to a preliminary report issued by the Wills Point Police Department, local first responders were dispatched in the early evening hours May 17 for a two-vehicle accident in the location of Highway 80 and FM-2965.

Thirty members of a nonprofit organization, aptly named Airplanes and Coffee, flew into the Terrell Municipal Airport May 7 for coffee at the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum. Founded by left to right, Russ Keith, Mike Roberts and John Naugle, the group hopes to increase awareness of general (non-commercial) aviation and to offer scholarships to people needing assistance with check rides and the airframe/power plant ratings testing fees - worthy goals toward increasing the number of private pilots and aircraft mechanics in the country. May 28: Lake Tawakoni State Park, located at 10822 FM 2475, will host a Build-a-Bug event beginning at 2 p.m. Organizers stated, “Show off your art skills as we learn about the tools bugs use for survival! Join a ranger to identify the advantages and importance of bug adaptations through this craft activity. Bring your creativity and a friend.” The program is free with paid park entry.
