Sales Tax Holiday for emergency supplies, April 22-24

With the severe weather season upon us, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds Texans they can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 24.

Aggies from the Kaufman County area will gather on Friday, April 21 for Aggie Muster, an occasion for Aggies to enjoy fellowship and to honor Aggies who have died in the past year. This year’s muster will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Kaufman (The Porch) located at 2000 W. Fair St. in Kaufman.

Proposed legislative changes to the election process were front and center for the Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Tuesday morning as officials discussed their potential impact on local voters and what could be done to voice the county’s concern Administrator Tandi Smith served as the primary speaker on the topic, introducing background on the legislation while requesting the court to draft a letter opposing potential harmful changes to the county’s election process.

First of two votes on annexations conducted

DAVID KAPITAN editor@terrelltribune.com The Terrell City Council continued to push forward with its plans to take on more than 7,000 acres of land this week, conducting the first of two scheduled votes on a series of ordinances pertaining to the annexation matter. Annexation has become a hot button issue for both City of Terrell residents and impacted landowners in recent months, highlighted by a series of public hearings held March 20 and numerous speakers during the public comment portion of the city council’s weekly agenda.

Wiley appointed to advisory council

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kaufman County Criminal District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley to serve a second term on the Texas Crime Victims’ Institute Advisory Council. This advisory council is charged with conducting an in-depth analysis of the impact of crime on victims, close relatives of deceased victims, guardians of victims, and society.

Annual KC Quilt Guild Show on tap

The Kaufman Quilt Guild has announced that it will host its annual showcase event April 21-22 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily at the First Baptist Church Recreational Outreach Center located at 100 W. Brin St. in Terrell.

The Terrell Tigers saw their postseason hopes take a hit last week, dropping a pair of matchups in District 14-5A play. The Tigers began their week on the road, clashing with the Crandall Pirates for the second time this season.
