Ayres begins work as fire marshal

The Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court recently appointed Paul F. Ayres as Fire Marshal after a month’s-long search. Ayres is an experienced public safety professional who has been involved in over 360 fire/explosion investigations, including 28 fatal incidents (involving 42 separate fatalities).

The 2022 severe weather season is not too far away, and the National Weather Service and local public safety officials want you to be ready. The National Weather Service will be conducting a free, virtual severe weather training class for Kaufman County Feb. 15, from 7-9 p.m.

Tigers shuffled to 5A in UIL realignment

The wait officially ended for athletic programs across the state of Texas Feb. 3 with the UIL announcing district realignments for football and other athletic activities for the 2022-’23 and 2023-’24 school years.

Family, friends, teammates and members of the Terrell Tiger coaching staff joined standout student-athlete Malachi Williams as he signed his letter of intent to play football collegiately at Southwest Oklahoma State University beginning in the fall. Grass fires keep local departments busy

Area firefighters have been kept busy in recent weeks, responding to multiple grass fires that were sparked when attempts at controlled burns got out of control due to dangerous conditions. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department highlighted those issues in a series of Facebook posts in recent days posting Feb.

Early voting to run from Feb. 14-25

Texas Secretary of State John Scott urges all eligible Texas voters to prepare to vote in the March 1 Primary Election by visiting www.votetexas.gov (available in Spanish) to learn how they can cast a ballot during the Early Voting period or on Election Day. The Early Voting period for the March 1 Primary Election begins Monday, Feb. 14 and ends Friday, Feb. 25. The deadline for an Application for Ballot by Mail to be received by your county's Early Voting Clerk is Friday, February 18th.
