Representative Keith Bell was appointed to the new House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity & Enrichment Monday afternoon along with 14 other House members. The committee is created to consider issues and matters that broadly affect educational opportunities for K-12 students in Texas.

One of Terrell’s most well-known and utilized resources will soon be getting a major boost with news breaking June 26 that the Texas State Legislature has given the okay for the construction of a new campus at Terrell State Hospital.

This week, Terrell Fire Department personnel welcomed the arrival of “Brush 621” - the first such apparatus that has been added to the department’s fleet since 2003. Crews have begun in-service training and expect a “push-in” ceremony before a projected operational date of July 3, just in time for the triple digit temperatures and The truck was funded through a $464,425 grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Fire, Ambulance and Service Truck (FAST) Fund.

Blood donors are lifesavers for local patients who need transfusions. This includes children fighting cancer, mothers going through difficult childbirths, family members who require surgery, and grandparents with health issues, among many others in need.

To ensure that students have the tools needed to be successful, Terrell ISD annually raises funds for the “Adopt a Classroom” campaign. As the student population continues to grow so does the number of classrooms. This year, TISD has set the goal of raising $60,000 – the largest goal to date for this program.

The City of Terrell has found itself in a mid-year funk according to the Texas State Comptroller’s Office, seeing sales tax revenues dip when comparing against totals from the same calendar month from the previous year for the second consecutive reporting period.
