A chilly Saturday morning didn’t stop racers from coming out to Ben Gill Park for the Fountain 5K Run/Walk. The event, which was part of the 40th annual Terrell Jubilee, benefits the Volunteer Services Council (VSC) of Terrell State Hospital and it celebrates the charm and heritage of Terrell as participants pass historic homes built at the turn of the century on the scenic neighborhood route.

Arrests: Jeremy Breon Barnett, 35, Kaufman, possession of a controlled substance (PG 2) more than a gram and less than four grams, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal trespass, no driver’s license, speeding, expired registration, possession of drug paraphernalia. Kirk Ross Butler, 34, Terrell, criminal trespass, speeding, violated promise to appear.

Kaufman County and the state as a whole continue to see COVID-19 infection rates decrease and vaccination rates climb. As of April 26, Kaufman County had reported 52 estimated active cases, which continues a long decline from earlier this year.

The Texas Department of Transportation will begin repaving and adding shoulders to FM 1390 from State Highway 34 to FM 148 in Kaufman County. Ed Bell Construction Company is the contractor on this $7.6 million project.

Regan Wilkins of Terrell, son of Benson and Casey Wilkins, received the Charles “Bo” Miller Award for an Outstanding Athlete who Excels in Academics, during Austin College’s Honors Convocation on April 22.

St. Martin Catholic Church in Talty is doing its part in helping to feed people in need by offering a food giveaway every first Saturday of the month.

American and Texas flags flutter alongside service flags for the Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs in a “monument to unity,” according to Geron Bryan, pastor of Rockwall and Brin Church of Christ and a Kiwanis Club member. Archer’s project “speaks to a beautiful community that thrives on unity and celebrates unity,” Bryan said.
