Terrell city employees to receive pay increase

The Terrell City Council on Tuesday night voted 3-1 to give city employees a 2.5% raise in May as well as a 2.5% pay boost in September. The action will impact about half the city’s workforce because police and firefighters, who are civil service employees, received an across-the-board 4% raise with passage last fall of the fiscal 2021 budget.

Local COVID-19 infections stay level

In regard to COVID-19 vaccinations, the message coming out of Terrell city hall this week is that it’s never been easier to get vaccinated in Kaufman County. As of Tuesday, the Terrell Fire Department had administered roughly 29,000 COVID-19 vaccines, according to Dustin Connor, the city’s coordinator for Emergency Management.

Juvenile detention center bid OK’d

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Tuesday awarded a consulting bid to HOK, an engineering and architecture company that will advise the county on possible construction of a new juvenile detention center.

Commissioners OK study on juvenile detention center

Kaufman County commissioners Tuesday approved purchasing a $48,000 feasibility study on whether to build a new juvenile detention facility. The action came after a number of county officials laid out problems and concerns with the current system for housing juvenile offenders.

Appraisal notices likely to show higher valuations

Homeowners throughout Terrell and Kaufman County will soon receive appraisal notices, and many will see increases in the valuation of their property. In Kaufman County, the median home market value will go up about 10%, according to the Kaufman County Central Appraisal District.

Terrell early voting starts April 19

Early voting begins Monday, April 19 at the Terrell Sub-courthouse, 408 East College St., in the District 4 Terrell City Council race. The ballot will feature Stephanie Thomas, a registered nurse and a member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, against Gary Weems, pastor of The Rock Church in Terrell.
