Aging and the outdoors

This week let’s discuss a subject that directly affects all of us sooner or later- how to continue to enjoy our outdoor endeavors as we grow older. In my mid-seventies I feel qualified to share some experiences that might be beneficial to some of those who are a bit long in the tooth. If you are a whipper snapper in your prime, stick with me- the good Lord willing, you will someday be a ‘senior’ hunter, fisherman or outdoor enthusiasts and take my word for it, the years will fly by much faster than you think!
Luke and his good friend Larry Weishuhn, both well into their seventies, continue to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle as very active outdoorsmen but each do so in a slower, safer manner than they did as younger men. Photo by Jeff Rice

Outdoor folks make friends fast

Body
Our Seventh Annual Outdoor Ron-de-Voux took place at the Top Rail Cowboy Church in Greenville recently and, as the saying goes, a good time was had by all. The idea for the event started with a visit with the late Lee Buffington, a well-loved radio personality better known as ‘Friendlee.’ ‘Friendlee’ passed away not long ago and we renamed the event ‘Luke Clayton’s ‘Friendlee’ Outdoor Ron-de-Voux’ in his honor.
