Council OK’s new debt for city improvements

The Terrell City Council on Tuesday signed off on issuing new short- and long-term debt as it looks to make investments in everything from water meters to streets to improved lighting at city parks. The council authorized the issuance of $6.575 million in 10-year certificate of obligation bonds, which will fund $1 million for the acquisition of improved radios and police surveillance equipment, $2 million for repaving streets, and $3.5 million to purchase a new generation of water meters that can be read remotely.

The Terrell City Council and the Terrell school board will each have a new face and a fresh perspective in the aftermath of the May 1 election. Tonya Derrick won the Place 3 seat on the school board with 285 votes to Pat Martin’s 62, or 82% to 18%.

A new ‘FOCUS’ for THS automotive technology

Terrell High School career and technical education (CTE) students received a boost to their education in automotive technology last week with delivery of a 2016 Ford Focus courtesy of Platinum Ford. As students checked out the vehicle outside the automotive shop, school instructor Del Borron explained the significance of having a late-model automobile on which to work.

Tiger Tales to roll through streets of Terrell this summer

With much anticipation and excitement, Terrell ISD unveiled its new Tiger Tales Literacy Bus at the Terrell Heritage Jubilee last month. Ready and set to prowl the streets and neighborhoods of Terrell, the Tiger Tales bus is stocked full of books for students of all ages, an interactive TV screen, and laptops and a wireless connection, all of which will allow the district to serve and engage with families year round.

North Texas Antique Tractor Show Set for June 12-13

The North Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Club’s Show, Pull and Swap meet will be held Saturday and Sunday June 12-13 at Ben Gill Park in Terrell. The show hours are Saturday, June 12 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 13 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New Location for the Annual July 4 Fireworks Show

This year, make plans to enjoy the 4th of July Fireworks display at a new location – Terrell Municipal Airport. A decision was made to relocate the show for safety concerns, considering the close proximity of the Timbers apartment complex, Furlough Middle School and the ExCEL Center.
