Mayor Camona celebrates Burnett Reunion

Mayor Rick Carmona takes part in the annual Burnett Reunion July 21 to celebrate William H. Burnett, for which the Terrell elementary school is named after. Burnett was the principal for the Old Colored School in Terrell in 1900. Burnett’s high educational standards and encouragement played an important role in the development of his students and exerted a positive influence on young African Americans well beyond the city limits of Terrell.

FEMA recovery center in KC closes

editor@terrelltribune.com The FEMA disaster recovery center that opened in Kaufman County following the storms of late May closed permanently Tuesday, July 16. The center in Kaufman opened June 21 to provide one-on-one help to Texans affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, flooding and straight-line winds April 26 through June 5.

Council discusses good news report, upcoming events

Local businessman arrested in Terrell

editor@terrelltribune.com The Terrell Police Department arrested local businessman Larry Vrzalik of Kaufman for a reported theft July 9. According to an arrest report from Terrell PD, Vrzalik allegedly stole multiple items from a Home Depot store back on April 23.

North Texas Longhorns Summer Track Club excels

The North Texas Longhorns Summer Track Club of Terrell completed the TAAF Region 7 Regional Meet this past weekend in Princeton. “Out of the 80 athletes that registered, we will be taking 47 young athletes to the TAAF Games of Texas in Brownsville July 25-28,” said Head Coach Keith Willis.
