Each year, the United Way of Kaufman County does one signature fundraiser: their Veterans Day 5k. This year, the run will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Terrell Veterans Memorial Park located at 1314 W. Moore Ave.

Early voting is now underway for the Nov. 7 general election. Voters will decide the fate of 14 proposed amendments, including measures to provide property tax relief and raise the homestead exemption to $100,000.

In response to the growing demand for resources provided by counties to Special Purpose Districts across Texas, like law enforcement and emergency services, State Representative Keith Bell filed today crucial legislation aimed at safeguarding the interests of our counties and communities while ensuring responsible growth. Texas, with its diverse and expanding population, relies on Special Purpose Districts to meet various community needs, from Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) to Health and Hospital Districts.

Arrests: Clarnisha Ray Shell Prince, Terrell, 25, warrants Aleta Uvette King, Terrell, 49, theft less than $100; failure to maintain financial responsibility; ran red light Shavaskiau R.

Tammy Pargoud from REACH Child Placing Agency spoke at Rotary Club of Terrell Oct. 19. Pargoud updated the club about upcoming events and donation opportunities and was also able to accept a donation from Rotary. Thanks to you and others in our community, the Gift of Hope has provided Christmas for over 1,000 Kaufman County children in need for the past Seven years. As we prepare for another holiday season, we anticipate that the need will be even greater this year.

Kaufman County celebrated its 175th Anniversary with a time capsule sealing on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Trinity Valley Community College - Kaufman Campus participated in the time capsule sealing and submitted a TVCC pennant for the capsule. The time capsule will be dug back up in 100 years in 2123. It was a privilege for TVCC - Kaufman Campus to be recognized during this event.
