The holiday weekend kicks off in Terrell on July 3 with a concert by two-time American County Music Award nominated quartet – A Thousand Horses. To be held at the Terrell Municipal Airport, the concert benefits the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum. Terrell’s own country rock music artist, Kaelynn Nikole, will open for the Nashville based quartet making their first Texas visit in more than two years.

Local dignitaries, elected officials and wartime heroes were among the guest speakers and presenters at this year’s Memorial Day program held May 30 at the Kaufman County Veterans’ Memorial Park located at 3800 S. Houston St. in Kaufman. Office of Veterans Services Director Robert Hunter served as the emcee for the memorial service, which was co-sponsored by the Friends of Kaufman County Veterans Park and the American Legion Post 165. The Vietnam Memorial Wall located in the park was dedicated 13 years ago in 2009 after it was retired from a tour across the nation. The wall was recently upgraded with lighting for people wanting to visit after sunset. The new lighting feature was unveiled at the Veterans’ Day Celebration on November 11, 2021. Also at that event, the MIA/POW Chair Monument was unveiled. This “empty” chair monument represents all veterans who did not make it back home from war and it will never be sat in by anyone until the last missing or captured veteran comes home. The 14th Annual Summer Reading Activities Fair will kick off at 5 p.m., June 7 at the Hulsey Public Library, 301 N. Rockwall Ave. in Terrell. The fair, free to the public, will include snow cones, popcorn, two bounce houses, a fire truck, and train rides.

Terrell State Hospital Volunteer Services Council’s third annual Patient Art Show and Silent Auction will take place June 10 from 6-8:30 p.m. at The Shops at Terrell (301 Tanger Dr.).

Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 4.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.22/g May 31, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 37.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.50/g higher than a year ago. The price of diesel has fallen 4.0 cents nationally in the past week and stands at $5.50 per gallon.

The Kiwanis Club of Terrell held their regular meeting May 31 at noon at the B&PW Building located at 200 Elm Street. The club’s guest speakers were Sharon Harper and Angie Cooper of the Terrell Chamber of Commerce. The pair shared details of what is expected to be a busy remainder of 2022 by giving information regarding the upcoming July 4th celebration, Chamber auction and other activities happening in our city. Rassy Acres, Terrell, Texas, is a new member of the American Angus Association, reports Mark McCully, CEO of the national breed organization headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri. The American Angus Association, with more than 25,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef breed association in the world.

The Wills Point Police Department and Wills Point ISD Police Department each took to social media last week, announcing the arrest of a Marshall area resident on multiple charges stemming from a month-long investigation.

At their Regular Meeting held on May 26, 2022, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Board of Directors elected its 2022-'23 Officers including President, Vice President, and Secretary to serve through May of 2023.

Volunteers gathered Sunday to place flags on the graves of fallen heroes at Oakland Cemetery in Terrell. Patty Yocum heads up the event every year.
