The Terrell Police Department issued a press release May 26, advising of an operation that took place in the early morning hours of May 25 and resulted in the arrest of a suspect due to drug-related charges.

Each year on the last Monday of May, Americans celebrate Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a federal holiday that honors and mourns American military personnel who died while performing their duties in service to the United States Armed Forces.

Terrell ISD officials and local law enforcement agencies were put on high alert during the early morning hours May 26 after receiving word that a potentially threatening social media post had been discovered just two days after a gunman had entered an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas and killed 19 students and two teachers.

Less than ideal weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm of local residents May 22 as more than 400 riders and participants from across the country passed through the area as part of this year’s Run for the Wall campaign.

Kaufman County voters went to the polls May 24, weighing in on statewide and local Republican and Democratic primary runoff elections. Among the biggest local developments was challenger Tommy Moore knocking off incumbent Precinct 4 Commissioner Ken Cates, guaranteeing that the Kaufman County Commissioners Court will have two new faces beginning next year.

Local officials have announced that they will be hosting a special Memorial Day event to honor the men and women of Kaufman County who gave their lives to protect us and give us the freedom we enjoy every day.
