Fall armyworms on the march across Texas

Body

TEXAS–Cooler temperatures andwidespread rain events across Texas have forage and crop producers scrambling to fi ght armyworms, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Armyworm caterpillars are the larval form of a moth that migrates by the millions northward in the spring and summer to lay their eggs. Infestations of the caterpillars can be extremely destructive to home gardens and forage and row crops from Bermuda grass to corn and rice.

Texoma, a fishery for all seasons

I love striper fi shing at Texoma during the dead of winter, using oversized jigs to entice greedily feeding stripers that drive bait to the surface and eat like there is no tomorrow. The sight of a few hundred sea gulls dipping and diving over a several acres of feeding stripers is the stuff great fi shing memories are made. I also like catching them in midsummer during the fi rst few hours of the day when they are feeding upon shad that have completed their spawn and dispersed to the waters of the mid to lower lake.

Guide Chris Carey and Luke Zimmerman having a big time showing off one of many hard fi ghting stripers landed earlier this week.

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Its back to school time! This year, schools may see an increase of students learning on campus which means disinfecting and cleaning will be a big part of every district’s return plan. The increase in use of these products can put students, especially young children at risk for accidental poisonings.
