TEA gives direction on SB 1697

Given the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the 2020-‘21 school year, the Texas Legislature passed SB 1697 to give parents new rights to determine whether their children should repeat a course or grade. This is just one of several new rights the 87th Legislature granted to Texas parents for the upcoming school year.

Marty Zewick Artist Award honors prominent Edom founder

In honor of the late artist Marty Zewick, more than 100 of her friends and patrons contributed $10,000 to assist a visual artist who has demonstrated consistent creative ability and is serious about a professional art career. The winner may be one who is just starting their career or that is more established but held back from the pandemic this past year or other challenges and needs a helping hand to get back on track.

Foundation donates to riding round up

On Monday, July 26, the Jake Wilson Memorial Foundation, Inc. met at Jake E's Riding Round Up in Kaufman. The foundation board met to tour the facility and to present the Founder and Director, Jana Ewing Syvrud with a donation.

On this day in 1965, Tarrant County Junior College was founded. The South Campus opened in 1967, a Northeast Campus at Hurst in 1968, a Northwest Campus on the north edge of Marine Creek Lake in 1975, and a fourth campus in Arlington in 1996. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities and approved by the Texas Education Agency. It operates under the Supervision of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Housing voucher program volunteers sought

The City of Terrell Housing Department is recruiting property owners with rental properties in Terrell to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. If you are interested and would like additional information, Terrell Housing will host landlord informational sessions at 115 N. Adelaide St.
