Traffic stop nets two arrests

An early morning traffic stop by the Terrell Police Department due to multiple traffic violations has resulted in the arrest of two suspects on drug related charges. According to information released by the Terrell PD, officers initiated a traffic stop in the 1200 block of FM 148 July 19.

Local man convicted on DWI charge

District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced the conviction of Zachary Taylor Busby, 26, for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). On July 13, 2021, following a two-day trial before the Honorable Tracy Gray in the County Court at Law of Kaufman County, a jury found Busby guilty.

Schubert named to Dean's Honor Roll at Southwestern College

Top scholars at Southwestern College in Winfield and at Southwestern College Professional Studies have been announced with the release of the Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2021 semester. Full-time students who earned grade point averages of at least 3.70 (4.0 equals an A) included Terrell High School graduate Cassidy Schubert of Terrell.

Comptroller releases 2022-’23 revenue estimate

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar provided an estimate of revenue available for the 87th Legislature, First Called Session, and now projects 2022-‘23 revenue available for general-purpose spending to be $123.02 billion. Hegar projects a 2022-‘23 ending balance in General Revenue-Related (GR-R) funds of $7.85 billion.

Housing voucher program volunteers sought

The City of Terrell Housing Department is recruiting property owners with rental properties in Terrell to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. If you are interested and would like additional information, Terrell Housing will host landlord informational sessions at 115 N. Adelaide St.

Holy Temple COGIC to host VBS

Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, located at 926 S. Adelaide St., has announced that it will be hosting its annual vacation bible school from July 18-20. Organizers noted that the event would kick off with a “Hallelujah Luau” theme and include food, fun and fellowship beginning at 2 p.m. July 18. The three-day event will wrap up with vacation bible school sessions beginning at 7 p.m. on both July 19 and July 20.

Local blood drive set for July 21

Healing and saving lives is a constant mission in the north, central and east Texas. As highly technical medical care advances, it often means blood transfusions become a part of the healing process. The only way to be sure that enough blood is available to hospitals for their patients is to become a volunteer blood donor.
