Honorable Judge Brett Hall officially swore in nine new volunteers during a ceremony held at the Rockwall County Courthouse on July 2. Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is proud to welcome the newest CASA volunteers to serve children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Kaufman and Rockwall Counties.

Terrell hosts TFA Primetimers pie contest

The City of Terrell hosted the Annual TFA Primetimers Pie Contest. The winners of this year’s contest were Athan Thompson and Anna Moeckel. Judges for the contest were Terrell Police Chief Arley Sansom, Terrell Fire Chief Shane LeCroy, Terrell Chamber of Commerce President Angie Cooper and João Pacheco Peres, who is visiting Terrell from Brazil.

Excessive heat and high humidity are being experienced all across East Texas. Utility bills will be high and low income households may be challenged to deal with these high bills. Assistance may be available through federal LIHEAP funding. Funding is available for Kaufman county and surrounding counties. The program targets vulnerable households such as elderly, disabled and the working poor. The Greater East Texas Community Action Program administers the program in east Texas. Eligibility is based on household income, citizenship and circumstances. Low income households are encouraged to inquire now as demand will increase as the summer season continues.

Kaufman PD warns of catalytic converter thefts

A catalytic converter is a key component of a vehicle’s exhaust system that helps reduce harmful emissions from gasoline or diesel engines.
