SPCA provides tips to keep pets safe

Happy Howl-O-Ween from the SPCA of Texas! With all of the gremlins, goblins and ghosts out on the prowl, the SPCA of Texas wants to remind pet owners to keep their pet’s safety in mind this Halloween. Here are some helpful tips to ensure the whole family has a spooktacular Halloween this year: -Don’t give any candy to your pets! All forms of chocolate can be dangerous, even lethal, for dogs and cats. Other candies may contain the artificial sweetener xylitol that can also be poisonous to pets.

Constable recognized for his compassion during tragedy

With overwhelming grief in his voice, John Sutton explained to the Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court that on October 5, he called 9-1-1 because his six-month-old grandson had stopped breathing. Sutton said when paramedics arrived, the baby could not be revived, but he said the one thing that held him together in that moment was the compassion shown by Precinct 3 Kaufman County Deputy Constable Wade Bowden.

Terrell EDC announces Dunlap as 2023 Board Chair

The Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC), at its Board Meeting Oct. 21, recognized Ray Dunlap as the 2023 Chair of the Board of Directors. Dunlap will serve as the Board Chair through October 20, 2023. He has been a member of the TEDC’s Executive Committee since 2018.

County tax sales to go online Nov. 1

Delinquent tax foreclosure sales in Kaufman County are moving from live, in-person sales to the world wide web. Starting in November, all tax foreclosure sales will exclusively be conducted online, beginning with the county’s upcoming tax sale tentatively scheduled for November 1, 2022. Tax sales have historically been conducted in-person on the steps of the courthouse.

STAR Transit to offer free rides
