The 2022-’23 basketball season was scheduled to hit another gear this week with both the Terrell Tigers and Terrell Lady Tigers set to compete in Royse City’s annual Craig Bowers Invitational Tournament Dec. 1-3.

The Terrell volleyball program experienced expected growing pains throughout the 2022 season, routinely hitting the court against programs that have been part of the 5A landscape for years. That inconsistency carried over into District 14-5A play where the Lady Tigers were paired with a slate of talented opponents that included Forney, Red Oak, Lancaster, Crandall, Ennis and Corsicana.

The Terrell Tigers have been well tested in recent seasons, routinely taking on some of the state’s top programs during both district and non-district play. That experience proved to be invaluable last week as Terrell rallied from a touchdown deficit on three separate occasions to score a 28-21 overtime win over Texas High Nov.

The Terrell Tigers officially punched their ticket to the playoffs on Friday night, overcoming both the rainy weather and the Poteet Pirates to score a dominating 42-7 road win. Terrell’s ground game would prove to be the difference in the contest, totaling 375 yards and four scores.

Pirates play spoiler on homecoming night

The Tigers and Crandall Pirates went toe to toe on Friday night, dueling for 48 minutes at Memorial Stadium in a key district showdown that also served as homecoming night for Terrell. Crandall would ultimately prevail in the contest, doing just enough late to score a 36-29 victory over the Tigers.
