Commissioners Court recognizes National Salvation Army Week

Kaufman County Judge Jakie Allen, along with the Kaufman County Commissioners Court, signed a proclamation recognizing May 11–16 as National Salvation Army Week in Kaufman County. The proclamation honors the long-standing service and dedication of The Salvation Army and its commitment to helping individuals and families throughout Kaufman County and surrounding communities.

Lone Star CASA welcomes new volunteers

Lone Star CASA proudly welcomed new volunteers during two swearing in ceremonies held at the Rockwall County Courthouse in March and April. The Honorable Judge Brett Hall officially administered the oath to the newest CASA Volunteers who are now prepared to advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Kaufman and Rockwall Counties. During the March ceremony, five CASA Volunteers and one Helping Heart were sworn in. In the second ceremony in April, eight CASA Volunteers and two staff members were sworn in. Helping Hearts are family members of CASA Volunteers who complete training to provide additional support throughout a volunteer’s advocacy journey.

Plane crash injures three in Forney

editor@terrelltribune.com Three people were injured in a plane crash in Forney in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 16. Texas Highway Patrol responded to a single-engine plane crash in a field on the southwest corner of Helms Trail and Akron Way in the city limits of Forney according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Kaufman County Grand Jury returned 61 indictments May 15. Indictment information obtained from the District Clerk’s office does not include ages or addresses of defendants.

Kaufman County OKs report regarding ADA plan

Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court voted May 10 to approve a self-evaluation and transition report in regards to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Kaufman County’s Title VI coordinator, Shelley Tackett, explained to the court that the self-evaluation plan “basically means the county’s program services, facilities and websites complies with identifying barriers and making adjustments as needed.

Terrell PD hold Police Week Memorial Ceremony

Terrell Police Department held its National Police Week Ceremony on the morning of May 14 to remember the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Law enforcement officers stood alongside members of the community, fellow first responders, elected officials and the families of those that were lost as they reflected on the meaning of service, sacrifice and remembrance. During the ceremony, they recognized the lives and legacies of fallen officers through the reading of names and end of watch, wreath placement and a moment of silence. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. See more photos on page 7A.
