Terrell ISD became a hive of activity last week with students returning to campus to start the 2022-’23 school. According to district officials, a record 5,055 students were enrolled in classes as of Aug. 17. In comparison, the district reported an enrollment total of 4,763 students on the fifth day of classes last year.

Sales tax revenue collections continue to climb

DAVID KAPITAN Kaufman County cities continued to experience déjà vu when it comes to sales tax revenue collections according to the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar. For the third consecutive month, all but one local city posted sales tax revenue when comparing against the same calendar month from the previous year.

Officials approve sheriff substation

Through a creative partnership with the Forney Independent School District, Kaufman County will soon begin construction on a new sheriff substation on the west side of the county in Forney. The proposed 9,780 square foot sub station will be located near North Forney High School on 15 acres of land donated by the Forney Independent School District and ground is expected to be broken within the next 60 days.
