Eastland Park development reviewed by council

City leaders opened their weekly business on a bittersweet note, bidding farewell to longtime Tim Royse at his final meeting as a council member. Royse had been a fixture on the council and at local events over his time in the city, serving as a volunteer in various roles at Terrell ISD before taking a position on the Terrell Park Board for two years.

I-20 fatality incident under investigation

Traffic eastbound along Interstate 20 in Kaufman County was brought to a standstill following a fatality incident involving a box truck July 26. According to preliminary information made available by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a box truck was traveling eastbound just west of FM 429 just before 5 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club of Terrell hosted its regularly scheduled weekly meeting July 19, and welcomed Patty Yocum of Terrell as its newest member. Kiwanis, the largest service club, has clubs in most countries around the world. Anyone interested in becoming a member may find them on Facebook or their website.

Texas Beef Cattle Short Course set for August 2-4

The Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course is held each year during the first week of August and has grown into one of the largest beef cattle educational events in the world. Each year over 1,800 beef cattle ranchers from Texas and across the U.S. travel to attend the event that features over 20 different concurrent sessions and a trade show with more than 120 vendors.

Grant applications being accepted for the 2023-‘24 year

United Way of Kaufman County will be conducting it annual Agency Grant reviews in February 2023. If you are an organization providing services to Kaufman County residents that are compliant with our Community Impact guidelines (Education, Health and/or Financial Stability), have a 501(c)3 standing with the IRS, have annual audits or reviews and would like an application to apply for grant money, please contact the United Way office at deb@ kaufmancountyunitedway. org.

How did your civic engagement lead to your volunteer roll in municipal government? Over the years, I enjoyed being a soccer coach, baseball coach, TARA youth baseball board member, voice of the Fighting Tiger Band, Band Parent VP, Band Parent President, voice of Terrell Tiger baseball, Terrell Athletic Booster, THS Cheer Booster and Terrell Parks board member; I was clearly hooked on civic engagement in Terrell . After years of volunteering in youth sports, I joined the parks board in 2014.
