Commissioners OK boost in Humane Society payments

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Tuesday agreed to boost the county’s monthly payment to the Humane Society of Cedar Lake (HSCL), which is struggling with a significant budget shortfall. Commissioners voted to increase the county’s monthly payment to HSCL by $3,480 per month.

The Terrell Chamber of Commerce’s exceeded its goal of $180,000 by raising $206,419 during the 40th annual Civic Auction on Oct. 16, chamber President Carlton Tidwell announced this week.

The office of Veterans Services has moved to the Kaufman County South Campus located at 3003 S. Houston Street in Kaufman Previously, the office was located at the Courthouse Annex on Washington Street on the Square.

Work set to begin on FM 148

Starting Nov. 1, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin reconstructing the pavement and adding shoulders to FM 148 in Kaufman County, from FM 3094 south to FM 2613.

Terrell hospital efforts focus on economics

On Friday nights you can find the Terrell High School marching band in the stands cheering for the Terrell Tiger football team. On Wednesday, October 20 at the UIL District Marching competition in Mesquite, you found the opposite.

Richards will not seek second term

Kaufman County Judge Hal Richards announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election to a second term as county judge. Richards said in a statement: “On New Year’s Day, I began to think about my plans for the future and whether or not to commit to another four years in elected office.

What’s your favorite freshwater fish – for eating?

I recently posed the question on social media “What’s your favorite freshwater fish to eat that’s commonly caught in Texas waters?” Several hundred folks responded with their favored species for the frying pan or grill and many elaborated with their methods of cooking. In my post, I mentioned I was conducting an unofficial ‘poll’ and the results would be the topic for my outdoor column this week.
